"Drunken Sailor" のアレンジが気に入った妻は、次から次へと楽譜を持ってきました。民謡のようなもんですから、当然メロディ譜しかないのですが、それが逆に発想を広げてくれるわけですね。和声も楽器編成も好きなようにできますから。
この曲では、マンドリンとアコーディオンを使ってみました。イタリア民謡みたいになってしまったですね。ＧＭ音源の場合はマンドリンが鉄弦のギターになってしまいますが、いいかげんなアレンジですから、気にすることはありません。
訳詞は「アーサー・ランサム・クラブ」ということになっていますが、アーサー・ランサムというのは、イギリスの児童文学の作家だそうで、「ツバメ号とアマゾン号」始め、船を描いたお話を書いておられるようです。わしは読んだことがないのでよく知りません。で、それのファンクラブみたいなもんですね。妻が近ごろかぶれておりまして、クラブの仲間で歌詞を翻訳されたそうです。
後に、メロディをちょっと変えろとか、歌いにくいからテンポを落とせとか、５番まで(実は10番まで)作れとか言われまして、そうやって変更したバージョンも作らされてしまいましたが、これは最初にアレンジしたものでございます。わんわん。
